Mother’s Day Reflection

“I’ve been trying to blur the lines between us since you were born.” - Glennon Doyle

Mother’s Day is May 8th in the USA. This day is not as simple as roses and chocolates. It’s not hallmark cards or fancy coffees. It’s sometimes not happy either. It can be downright devastating.

Mother’s Day is everything and nothing.

Motherhood is so much explosive love in a sea of loss: lost time, lost sleep, lost self.

Mother’s Day reminds us of those who were stripped of motherhood too soon, those who never had a mother, and those who want desperately to be mothers. We think also of those mothers sitting in quiet houses, longing to hear squeals of childish delight again.

We mothers form our children, who then form the world. What a terribly important and difficult job.

I always question my worthiness, as I must never cease to be worthy of the name “Momma.”
