Let Them Play in Puddles
Let them play in puddles!
It seems counter-intuitive, doesn’t it?
Allowing our kids to frolic in puddles is almost like wishing for even more dirty laundry, muddy footprints in the house, dirty fingernails, and promoting general recklessness. Puddles and mud are just a bad idea!
Right?
Wrong, actually.
(Except for the laundry part…)
Allowing for puddle-play provides a healthy outlet for expending extra energy and helps reduce anxiety. Just getting kids to step outside can lower cortisol levels significantly!
Playing in mud and puddles can also boost your child’s immune system. Every time kids are exposed to regular germs, such as dirty and muddy surfaces, their immune system kicks in, “creating the codes to fight off sicknesses.” In fact, exposing children to dirt and germs in their daily life could be key to proper immune health.
As an added bonus, getting kids outside to interact with natural things requires zero toys. Nature is truly a minimalist playground!
Instead, every time it rains, I’ll be outside with my kids jumping in puddles too.
What about you?
